The program offers Azure Cloud Computing Certification Scholarships, valued at over $50,000 USD
Directions Training, an Illinois, U.S.-based Microsoft Learning Partner and global provider of IT and professional development training, has granted 50 WiT CloudPower Scholarships for Microsoft Azure Fundamentals Certification training. For over 25 years, Directions Training has helped organizations, government entities, and individuals embrace technology by offering Custom-Fit Training solutions for all major technology vendors. The unique scholarship program for a cohort of 50 launched in partnership with The WIT Network on April 1, 2020. The available spots filled within two days.
"There is an employment, pay, and culture gap for women in the technology field," said Jennifer Didier, CEO of Directions. "Part of our mission as an educator in the field is to find ways to help close that gap. As more and more organizations move to the cloud, the demand for cloud-certified technical talent is going to continue to increase. The WiT CloudPower Scholarship Program helps women seize an opportunity to up-skill and position themselves for advancement."
What the numbers say
Statistics show that there is a broken rung in technology, limiting progress toward parity in the industry. Women are underrepresented in software engineering, comprising only 14% of the total workforce, and in computer science-related jobs, women only make up 25% of the entire workforce. The reality is that female software engineer hires have increased only 2% over the last 20 years. Active measures must be taken to combat this blatant discrepancy.
“I am very excited about this partnership, as it allows The WIT Network to fulfill one of its core missions: to help educate and further careers for women in technology,” said Christine Bongard, President of The WIT Network. “We are so grateful to Jennifer Didier and Directions Training for this opportunity, and look forward to adding future cohorts to continue to empower our membership. Purposeful initiatives like this certification course will contribute to diminishing the gender gap in the technology industry.”
Directions Training’s goal is to provide at least 100 scholarships in the 2020 calendar year. Learn more at https://directionstraining.com/wit-cloudpower/.
