August 2018 Newsletter

Hello IAMCP-US Community,

Our most prestigious public event for the International Association of Microsoft Channel Partners, United States (IAMCP-US), is the Microsoft Inspire Conference that was held in Las Vegas, NV on July 15th thru 19th. The conference started early for the IAMCP, with the US Board of Directors meeting being held on July 14th and July 15th, followed by our world-famous “Speakeasy” social event that was attended by more than 700 Microsoft Partners held immediately after Microsoft’s welcome reception on Sunday evening.

On July 16th, thousands of Microsoft partners and employees occupied the T-Mobile Arena to hear Microsoft’s senior leaders discuss the ways in which companies around the world are transforming their businesses through the power of partnership and Microsoft technologies. We learned about an increased focus in FY19 on industry-specific solutions, new strategies to drive customer acquisition and retention, and enhanced training and readiness opportunities. In addition, we heard from Brad Smith, Microsoft President and Chief Legal Officer, who presented at the IAMCP Executive Roundtable meetings that day.

The IAMCP was extremely active at this year’s Inspire Conference and below are some of the activities that we hosted:

  •  Executive Roundtable Meetings: Over 16 Roundtable meetings were hosted by the IAMCP, which included Brad Smith, Gavriella Schuster, Kurt DelBene, Steven Guggenheimer, David Willis, David Smith, Toby Richards, Brent Combest, Tracy Crain, Justin Slagle, Gretchen O'Hara, Rajiv Sodhi, Judit Nagypal, Raúl Lozano, Carlos Bueso and Klaus Fander.
  • Women in Technology: held several sessions, a booth in the community hub, and the SOLD OUT WIT Charity Luncheon, attended by over 1,000 guests, including special guest, Satya NadellaRandy Steinle was the recipient of the “Man of WIT” award.
  • Awards: The IAMCP Prometheus Award, recognizing a Microsoft employee for dedication to our organization, went to Kati Quigley.
  • Scholarships: The Rudy Rodriguez Scholarship Fund recipient was announced.
  •  Partners: Our strategic alliance partners, including Comcast and Crayon, helped us run the IAMCP Community Hub and many of our events.
  • Sessions: 20-plus IAMCP members presented at Inspire sessions.

We are very pleased to announce that membership has increased by over 114% in the last 12 months, and we are currently at the highest membership totals since 2015. I want to remind everyone that growing the IAMCP membership is our responsibility, so please help us promote our success stories on the IAMCP website. In addition, we have announced our new Virtual Chapter, which is designed to support IAMCP members that are not located near a current IAMCP chapter. Furthermore, we have announced the “New Member Growth Challenge,” and an award will be given to the chapter that adds the most members by August 30, 2018. The award will be announced after September 1st.

We need your help immediately to fulfill a sponsorship obligation before August 30, 2018. Please join now, it’s free, no commitment and you never know when that whale of an opportunity will come your way that is going to require assistance.  Be ready, click here.

US Board of Directors

The IAMCP has thrived for two decades—in no small part because it is an organization with membership based on trust. Members meet face-to-face and discuss helping each other to fill gaps in their portfolios for products and services that their clients are demanding. Similarly, the IAMCP seeks out strategic partners and vendors to help round out member portfolios with other services that clients demand, such as telecommunications bandwidth, hosting, ISV solutions, distribution services, and many more.

For years, the IAMCP has needed a way for these services, products, regional support, vertical expertise, and other solutions to be easily found. Enter The IAMCP INDEX. The Index provides this information on an easy-to-navigate site that allows visitors to search by category, location, and many other variables. The Index is SEO friendly, so prospects can locate partners with specific skills and experience through the common search engines. It also allows those organizations listed to increase their exposure as advertisers with more category listings, logos, and links to videos and social channels. The Index features the most visited advertisers prominently on the home page. Packages start at as little as $100 per month.

The IAMCP Index fosters member-to-member client collaboration and vendor-to-member opportunities. Whether your organization is a regional or national CSP, ISV or MSP, your Index profile tells the community that you are willing to collaborate on opportunities or resell your solutions through another member. Index advertisers are also encouraged to develop a specific offer that is unique and significant for our members. For example, many of you are familiar with the $1,000 services credit offered by SherWeb.

Why not take advantage of this opportunity to expand your business through the IAMCP today!

 More Information

BOSTON - Keith Keeler, Chapter President

IAMCP Boston and WIT New England held a joint function on June 26th – a fun night of speed networking, food, drinks and fundraising for the student in Haiti that both chapters are sponsoring. Over 40 partners registered to participate. Thanks to Davin Cooke and Identity Maestro for sponsoring the event! We raised over $1,000 for Harvest for Humanity and our sponsored student, Bithja!

Raffle items were donated by Identity Maestro (Star Wars Lego set), WIT New England (gift basket), Now Business Intelligence (2 sets of Red Sox tickets), Lowell Spinners Baseball (4 free tickets) and the MS Store in Burlington (Xbox One).

Speed networking was great! Initially people thought five minutes was TOO LONG – well, we used the WIT NJ chapter idea of giving everyone a bag of Skittles and a cheat sheet of questions. Each seat had a bag of Skittles. Based on what color Skittle they pulled out of their bag, they would ask a question from the list that corresponded to the color of the candy they pulled. First time networkers LOVED it – it made them much more comfortable engaging one-on-one with the person across from them. We had a hard time getting people to move on to the next person when time was up!

CHICAGO - John Nicolau, Chapter President

IAMCP Chicago met with U.S. Representative Peter Roskam (R-IL-6) on June 25! For details, read this Voices For Innovation blog post.

Join us at our upcoming meetings:

  • September 27 – Update on Dynamics 365 Roadmap
  • October 11 – Sales Baseline Assessment Presentation by Accountability Partners
  • November 15 – SherWeb, Crossmatch, Comcast Presentations
  • December 13 – Chapter Holiday Party

SOCAL - Eric Klauss, Chapter President

While a lot of us were preparing to go to Inspire, members of SoCal WIT held a fantastic pancake breakfast fundraiser to support Laure, our sponsored student, as part of the IAMCP WIT Haiti Initiative. We’ve raised over $1000 and are close to reaching our goal! Donations are still being accepted online here. We’re happy to assist Laure with tuition support to complete her studies and gain greater access to technology.

Microsoft Inspire rocked! And we can’t say enough about the Corenotes, sessions, happy hours, parties and awesome activities that occurred. Several IAMCP-SoCal members attended and we were able to meet up prior to and during many of the activities, thanks to social media and our frequent communication. We’d like to send a big congratulations to our pals Tim Martin and Alan Crookes at ActionPoint for receiving the Bronze P2P Excellence Award!

We had a packed house for our August meeting at the Microsoft office in Irvine, where we were joined by Matt Soseman to offer the topic: Supercharge Your Security Practice with Microsoft 365.

SOCAL NORTH - Pete Robbins, Chapter President

SoCal North has had some great meetings and events over the past couple of months! We want to thank Continuum ("State of the MSP Vendor & Provider Market and Where You Need to be in the Next 3-5 Years to Succeed") for sponsoring our Comedy Night Mixer/Networking Event on June 13. Thanks also to Juan Rodriguez and Gauchos Village for organizing. Here are some photos from the evening (photography by Sir Henry Thompson Jr.).

TENNESSEE - Ed Carnes, Chapter President

Tennessee IAMCP has signed on as a sponsor for the 5th Annual Tee Off for Technology Golf Tournament, benefiting the Women in Technology of Tennessee (WiTT). The event will be at the Arnold Palmer Signature Golf Course at The Governor’s Club in Brentwood, Tennessee, on September 17, 2018.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Frank Valdivieso, Chapter President

On July 18, the DC chapter held a “Get Inspired” meeting to view Satya Nadella’s Corenote Session from Inspire. Thanks again to Sam Cool with Planet Technologies for hosting at their Washington DC office.

Our August meeting was held at Microsoft Chevy Chase on August 15. Topics were:

  • Microsoft Inspire 2018: Announcements & News A summary of the announcements made at Microsoft Inspire in 2018 and what changes you need to be aware of.
Included an open forum for members to share their experiences, highlights, takeaways and next steps. Presented by Madeline Tomchick, Applied Information Sciences (AIS).
  • Multi-Stream Marketing  No single marketing strategy can fill the pipeline of most small tech businesses. We surveyed and interactively brainstormed the best—and often overlooked—marketing streams to raise awareness of our services and brands. Presented by Nikkia T. Carter, C3 Integrated Solutions.
