April 2019 Newsletter

Hello IAMCP-US Community,

I am honored to have been reelected to serve as your President of the International Association of Microsoft Channel Partners, United States (IAMCP-US) for the second term and am very excited following our February Board of Directors meetings in Seattle, WA during “Snowmageddon.”

Last year we had many successful initiatives and I am very proud of our US team:

  1. Reorganization to include Canada and LATAM as new regions
  2. Establishment of the Virtual Chapter led by Laura Peters
  3. US Monthly Town Hall meetings run by David Gersten
  4. IAMCP Expansion of Diversity and Inclusion led by Frank Valdivieso
  5. Establishment of our Partner Directory called the INDEX set up by Erik Frantzen
  6. Participation in the Microsoft Partner Executive Summit
  7. Participation at the INGRAM MICRO Cloud Summit in Boca Raton, FL
  8. Participation at the 2018 Microsoft Inspire Conference
  9. Strategic Alliance with CompTia
  10. Establishment of the IAMCP University
  11. Establishment of CO-Sell programs with the Microsoft Stores
  12. Personal visits to over 20 chapters

I would like to personally thank BitTitan for hosting our midyear board of directors meeting at their new offices in Bellevue, WA.

In keeping with these standards of professionalism and the presence of such a strong community, I would like to let everyone know how supportive all of the leaders and members of the IAMCP have been during the Board of Directors transition. In particular, this includes the still active Presidents Emeritus, Randy Steinle, Ro Kolakowski and Jon Sastre. David Gersten, IAMCP-US Vice President, and Debra Pfundstein, Secretary, have been awesome and endlessly helpful to our efforts! Tom Major will continue to lead the Finance Committee and has done such a terrific job with our US operations that he has been appointed to the International Board of Directors.

I am extremely excited about our senior level regional leaders:

  • West: Eric Klauss, who will be heading up the Western Region
  • Central: Ken Meyer, who is returning to manage the Central Region
  • East: Keith Keeler, who is returning to manage the Eastern Region

I’m also thrilled to announce the following leaders:

  • US Vice President: David Gersten was reelected and will manage the Regional Chairs, including the Virtual Chapter, LATAM and Canada. David’s focus will be on P3, which is Partnering, Process and Participation, and establishing 51 Chapters in the US while growing the LATAM and Canada regions!
  • US Secretary: Debra Pfundstein, who was the first-ever woman elected to the Executive committee, was also reelected and will serve as both the US Secretary and the International Inspire Chairperson. Debra did a fantastic job delivering the Inspire event for the IAMCP in 2018 and will continue in her role for 2019 for the IAMCP’s 25th Anniversary.
  • Membership: Christina Cala from Southern California will lead the Membership committee and has a very aggressive calendar year-end goal of 1,250 paid members. Christina did a great job growing our largest chapter and will help the Americas growth, but will require everyone’s support to attain this attainable, but aggressive, objective.
  • Sponsorship: Erik Frantzen and Sandra Knight will together oversee Sponsorship. They did a spectacular job with sponsorship last year with the launch of the INDEX. We will challenge them again this year with a goal of delivering funding over the calendar year.
  • Marketing & Communications: Jon Rivers, our Marketing and Communications guru, will continue to lead the Marcom committee. Jon has a very aggressive goal of 4,000 IAMCP-US followers! Please follow us @iamcpus and share our story!
  • Diversity and Inclusion: Frank Valdivieso is leading our Diversity and Inclusion initiative. Frank will be working with all of our chapters to help promote D&I and make sure that our organization adheres to best practices.
  • MIST (Microsoft IAMCP Strategy Team): Lastly, but perhaps the most important committee, is MIST, which has been led by Randy Steinle. Randy was recently appointed as the International MIST chairperson and Cheryl Salazar was appointed as the US MIST committee chair. Randy & Cheryl will lead our Microsoft Liaison Team to foster the positive working relationship with the Microsoft Team.

Two other initiatives that we have executed include the IAMCP University with the assistance of Titu Sarder and the development of a Project Management Organization (PMO) led by Randy Steinle. Stay tuned for additional details on these special projects.

In conclusion, I am extremely excited to be working with our International IAMCP President Sergio Baptista. Sergio is a great leader and I am confident he will make the IAMCP the best Microsoft Partner Organization in the world!

The International Association of Microsoft Channel Partners (IAMCP) is excited to be Partnering with Microsoft to participate in this year's Inspire Partner Conference. Returning to Las Vegas and the Mandalay Bay Convention Center for 2019, the Conference kicks off Sunday, July 14th, with the Welcome Reception in The Commons Expo. Immediately following the Welcome Reception, the IAMCP will be hosting our annual party, and, for 2019, we'll be celebrating a milestone—our 25th Anniversary. Watch for details around registration coming in the weeks ahead.

New this year, Microsoft is combining their two biggest conferences—Ready, Microsoft's Global Sales Conference and Inspire, Microsoft's Global Partner Conference—into one huge learning and networking opportunity. Bringing together over 40,000 attendees to these joint conferences, Microsoft is also expanding the size of The Commons Expo and extending the conference by a full day. This year, The Commons Expo will almost double in size and be open all day on Thursday, July 18th, ending after the Happy Hour at 6pm. This provides a full additional day of networking for the attendees.

As with previous years' Inspire Partner Conferences, the IAMCP welcomes volunteers to help across a variety of opportunities. From helping staff the IAMCP Booth in the Commons Expo or our 25th Anniversary Party to participating as a member of our IAMCP Social Squad to amplify our message, volunteers will be needed. Please contact for additional information.

We also have high exposure Partner Sponsorship Opportunities available for Inspire 2019! From programs that will help support our 25th Anniversary Party celebration to "Powering our Booth" to supporting our philanthropic activities around the Rudy Rodriquez Scholarship Fund, we have opportunities available for all. Please contact for the conference sponsorship guide.

Have you met Petey, the IAMCP Partner-to-Partner Gnome?? He will be making appearances throughout the world helping us celebrate our 25th Anniversary leading up to his appearance at Inspire. He may even make a few side trips to Vegas to ensure all our plans are in place. Tweet to @IAMCPGnome if you'd like Petey to visit your chapter and help celebrate our anniversary!

Coming soon you’ll see announcements about our annual Partner-to-Partner Awards Program and our Prometheus Awards Program which honors Microsoft reps that support our communities. More details will be provided about our 25th Anniversary Celebration and, for the first time in a while, the opportunity to present in the IAMCP Booth mini theatre to help promote maturity and partnership in the IAMCP.

We do hope you'll all be able to join us in Las Vegas this July, but if you can't, please consider hosting an Inspire viewing party at your office for your local IAMCP chapter. Microsoft broadcasts the CoreNotes in real time and it's an incredible opportunity to participate in this global community in a local way.

BTW- did I mention it's the IAMCP's 25th Anniversary? That's 25 Years of Partnership to celebrate and we want everyone to join us!! If you have a story to tell about celebrating partnerships, have pictures from your chapter meetings, want to record a video wishing IAMCP a Happy 25th Anniversary, want to write a poem or take a chapter picture in front of a local landmark, DO IT!! Share those details with us at We'll be glad to share them with the world!

As always, the Inspire Build Team will keep you updated on our plans around Inspire and the 25th Anniversary celebration.

AUSTIN - Davin Cooke, Chapter President

This quarter has been a busy one for the Austin IAMCP chapter!

In January, we completed our 2019 board elections and welcomed seven members who stepped up, ready to take on 2019. We are proud to present (from left to right) vice president, Tim Matteson; current and 2019 outgoing president, Davin Cooke; marketing chair and member emeritus, Rudy Rodriguez; secretary and membership chair, Maya Gudamaralla; advocacy chair, Lacy Finley; treasurer, Randy Steinle; and diversity and inclusion chair, Danny Brown (not pictured).

In February, we welcomed Joseph Landes from Nerdio who discussed the secret to success in the cloud with a demonstration and discussion of Nerdio’s Azure Management platform. This event was hosted at our partner and local Microsoft store location in the Domain.

On March 12, the Houston and Austin chapters teamed to invite partners and Microsoft trainers attending the “Microsoft Collaboration and Security Boot Camp” to a casual after-work mixer, generously sponsored by The Cybertrust Alliance, Sherweb and the Houston IAMCP chapter. Randy Steinle, Davin Cooke and Danny Brown attended the Houston event in partnership with AJ Ansari, Houston chapter president.

CHICAGO - Rick Rietz, Chapter President

FBI Special Agent Joel Robertz gave a great presentation at Chicagoland’s March #IAMCP meeting on the FBI's role in responding to a cyber incident, including myth-busting stereotypes of what a law enforcement response would look like, and some practical suggestions for engaging with law enforcement and the US Attorney's Office.

DALLAS/FORT WORTH - Joseph Khalaf, Chapter President

Exploring International Business Opportunities was the title of our March meeting
We hosted Ulises Aguilar, former Worldwide President of IAMCP, and leader of GTO TECH, an international business group formed by IT companies from Mexico and Latin America. Local partners were invited to learn how to work with this group of companies to provide expertise and top-quality IT services to new markets, including cutting-edge technologies for the growing optimization needs of global industries, dedicated to the integration of information and communication technologies and daring to propose the unusual, while always thinking about the functionality of processes.

Nerdio's Azure Workloads Management Platform was the title of our February meeting
Joseph Landes, Nerdio's Chief Revenue Officer, shared Nerdio’s platform for managing MSP workloads on Azure. What is the secret to success in the cloud? Scale, pure and simple. You have to have a way to expand your business without hiring a bazillion people to manage it. For MSP’s, this is where Nerdio comes in. Nerdio gives you the tools to manage an expanding set of workloads for an expanding set of customers.

NEW JERSEY - Erik Rabinowitz, Chapter President

Here are a couple of photos from our recent New Jersey chapter meeting, where our topic was Security for Azure + O365.

NEW YORK CITY - Titu Sarder, Chapter President

Hello from NYC!

NORCAL - Dan Callahan, Chapter President

IAMCP NorCal Gets into the Leads (and Referrals) with Tarang Shah
In Q1 2019, IAMCP’s NorCal chapter hosted Tarang Shah from Microsoft One Commercial Partner to talk about leads and referrals. We were able to hold this meeting as a direct result of our earlier meeting with Niamh Coleman (also a great meeting!). This was Tarang’s first visit to our chapter and we made sure she felt welcome and ready to return again and again!

Tarang took the group through the engine Microsoft has built to drive referrals. She also spoke to the effort to unite disparate referral and partner discovery programs under a framework that would be common across all referral “use cases.” There was a lot of great back-and-forth covering the signals that drive the surfacing of search results. Partners were also able to communicate how the search algorithms did or didn’t reflect the attributes that mattered most to customers (One example: It might make more sense to set the default distance in search queries to under 100 miles.).

The group enjoyed a great afternoon of conversation and a beautiful San Francisco day.

More to come!

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Frank Valdivieso, Chapter President

At our January meeting, we had an introduction of our 2019 title sponsor, Sophos, and a brief overview of our 2019 designated charity, Horton’s Kids. We also had some fun with a White Elephant Gift Exchange – our first annual had great participation… it will be back each year! We also held our Microsoft Employee Recognition and Honors – Local support of our chapter from Microsoft is extremely important and invaluable. We presented a plaque to Mr. Stephen Deming, Senior Partner Technology Strategist/One Commercial Partner that said, “Thank you for your Dedication & Support to the IAMCP DC Chapter.” He was extremely surprised and grateful for our recognition. A great way to kick-off the new year!

Our February sponsor was Franklin Apprenticeships, who presented “Modernizing the American Apprenticeship.” This was introduced at the St. Louis IAMCP chapter Meeting in January, and it was VERY well received! We communicated our Board of Directors election results and continued our recurring series, Madeline's Corner. This month was on “Providing Partners with Insights into the Microsoft Eco-system."

In March, Mark Pyne, Channel Development Manager with TPx Communications, discussed how TPx can help monitor, manage and provide security for your customer's office applications and Office365 service. We also had a presentation on “The Business Value of Microsoft SharePoint Community Involvement.” In this session, Shadeed Eleazer provided Microsoft practice leads with a clear picture of how to get involved and leverage the most active technology community across all platforms purely from a business perspective.

Join us for our April 9 meeting! Here's the program:

5:45pm: Sponsor Presentation – Sophos MSP Connect: Sarah Vogt, Channel Account Executive, will present MSP Connect. Sophos makes it easy to deploy, manage and sell new security services, growing your revenue and lowering your cost. She will discuss how you can provide your customers with proven and comprehensive security protection that is easily managed from one simple management platform.

6:00pm: Presentation – Microsoft New Product Announcements: Steve Deming, Azure Technical Trainer/Enterprise Skills Initiative, will be all over the place! He will be covering the new announcements from Microsoft on the Windows Desktop Virtualization Preview; Microsoft 365 add-on plans for identity and Compliance; and what has changed over the last year with Microsoft 365 Business.

7:00pm: Madeline’s Corner – Navigate the Microsoft Ecosystem in 2019
